Description: 

Cillar de Silos is a red wine aged in wood made by the winery of the same name in the D.O. Ribera del Duero with the Tempranillo variety. 

Cillar de Silos is a family winery located in Ribera del Duero that has been making wines since before the area began to emerge. Property of the Aragón family and located in the town of Quintana del Pidio, it is located in a place where phylloxera did not affect as much thanks to its sandy soils and, therefore, among its vineyards there are small treasures. 

This is the case of Cillar de Silos, a wine that is made with a handful of strains that were never infected with phylloxera. The fruit of these old vines provides a unique opportunity to get to know the native Tempranillo vines. Located at an average of 840 meters above sea level and planted in predominantly sandy soils with clay and silt, they grow under an extreme climate with harsh winters and very hot summers and are harvested by hand. 

In the winery, Cillar de Silos goes through traditional vinification. First the grapes ferment and macerate at a controlled temperature and then the wine begins to age for 13 months in French oak barrels. Once in the bottle, natural flower corks are used to cork the wine. 

Under the name Cillar de Silos, in homage to the monk who dedicated himself to taking care of the pantry in the Monastery of Silos, a red wine of great finesse and elegance is born. A true reflection of Ribera del Duero. 

Cillar de Silos is the only winery in Ribera del Duero that is part of the Wines of the year 2021 list that the prestigious publication Decanter prepared from a blind tasting where those classic, unconventional and valuable wines were tested. that managed to surprise Decanter staff and its experts around the world during 2021.
