Description:
Honduras, an environmentally friendly country in coffee production
Specialty coffee crops in Honduras are located above 1,000 meters above sea level, a situation that allows, thanks to its tropical climate and the various areas where the grain grows, to obtain varied as well as rich harvests. One of the peculiarities in the way coffee is grown in Honduras is that 98% of the plantations are in the shade. This process allows drought to affect the plants, as well as retaining moisture in the soil. To the planting process we must also add that in Honduras we find some of the largest productions of organic coffee, a format that respects the environment and has a positive impact on the quality of the land.
Did you know…?
In the heart of Central America's coffee belt, Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, and to the southeast by Nicaragua. It is a mountainous and forested country with lowland areas along its long Caribbean and short Pacific coasts. The coastal areas are hot and humid, with heavy summer rainfall, while the inland is cooler and drier. Coffee and bananas are the main exports, along with shrimp, lead, zinc and wood. Industrial activity is mainly reserved for agricultural processing.
