When brought to the nose, it releases aromas of ripe cherries and plums, intertwined with hints of vanilla and black pepper, as well as a background of fine wood. Description:
Macán Clásico is a single-varietal Tempranillo red wine produced by the Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia winery in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.
he great names in world viticulture come together to create a wine that seeks harmony through the expression of its roots and that brings together tradition and modernity. This is how Macán Clásico was born, by Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia, a luxury association established in the Rioja Alavesa where they have a winery located in a place known as San Millán, in the town of Samaniego.
This privileged location not only allows the production of excellent quality wines but also creates a commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment that the Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia winery has assumed by integrating its facilities with the landscape. These consist of three independent warehouses that house each of the stages of activity in the winery: production, aging and shipping, which they have decided to name after basic elements of nature: water, earth and sun. A declaration of intentions.
The grapes used to make Macán Clásico come from plots that are more than 30 years old and are harvested under strict quality and selection standards to guarantee the quality of the wines obtained from them.
Macán Clásico and its older brother, Macán, coexist from the first moment as they follow the same winemaking process. Both carry out combined malolactic fermentation, in stainless steel tanks and in barrels, 70% and 30% respectively, and are aged in new fine and extra-fine grain French wooden barrels. A minimal part of the resulting wine passes through barrels that are one year old.
This coexistence is due to the intention of emulating the Bordeaux tradition of making a first and a second wine. The coexistence of both ends at the time of the classification tasting where the batch of wines from the harvest that appears closest and most expressive is destined for the production of the Macán Clásico.
This apparent simplicity gives us a wine that reflects the character of the land but is accessible, easy to drink, without losing the seal of elegance that distinguishes these two greats: Rothschild and Vega Sicilia.
