Description: 

Niepoort LBV is a port wine blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão and Tinta Roriz. It is made by the Niepoort winery. 

Niepoort is a Portuguese winery that was founded in 1842. It is currently run by Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of the family that gives it its name. They practice traditional Portuguese techniques such as treading the grapes, fermentation in cement tanks or aging in pipes, 550-litre port aging barrels, and at the same time they have new technologies that allow them to work the grapes with great care. They have vineyards in different locations, some centuries old, and they have their aging winery in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia. 

The Niepoort LBV vineyards are over 70 years old and are located on mainly shale soils. The planting density is 4,000 to 6,000 plants per hectare. They are pruned in Guyot and Cordón Royat and harvested by hand. 

The Niepoort LBV ferments in open winepresses and the traditional treading is carried out to extract compounds, color and aromas so that the wine ends up being long-lasting. Once it has fermented to the desired level, the wine is topped with wine alcohol and then undergoes a long aging in large barrels for a minimum of 4 to 6 years. Residual sugars of approximately 100g/l are left. 

Niepoort LBV is a wine with a mature and round character that can be enjoyed neat after bottling but also has good bottle aging potential.
