Description:
Pago de Carraovejas is one of the best-known wines of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, made by the Pago de Carraovejas Winery.
It is a blend of the Tinto Fino (91%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) and Merlot (3%) varieties. The grapes come from both the farm owned by the winery and from farms spread throughout Ribera del Duero that grow their grapes under the meticulous supervision of the winery's technical team.
The Carraovejas estate is located on the outskirts of Peñafiel, one of the towns with the most winemaking tradition in the Ribera del Duero, composed of limestone loam soils with red clay.
It has an oceanic climate, with low rainfall and very cold in the long, humid winters in which temperatures reach -10ºC. Summers are very short and very hot, reaching temperatures of up to 40ºC, although nights and mornings are usually cool.
The harvest is carried out manually and the grapes are transported in small vibrating stainless steel trailers, arriving at the winery destemmed, whole and without having suffered any damage.
Pago de Carraovejas carries out fermentation in small stainless steel tanks and French oak vats with native yeasts from the vineyard itself. It is aged for 12 months in new and semi-new fine grain French and American oak barrels up to 3 years old.
Pago de Carraovejas is clarified with natural egg white and bottled by gravity. It will spend a further 12 months resting in the bottle before going on the market.
A wine that will delight lovers of wines with a marked passage through the barrel. Very fine and elegant.
