Description: 

Niepoort is a Portuguese winery that was founded in 1842. It is currently run by Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of the family that gives it its name. They practice traditional Portuguese techniques such as treading the grapes, fermentation in cement tanks or aging in pipes, 550-litre port aging barrels, and at the same time they have new technologies that allow them to work the grapes with great care. They have vineyards in different locations, some centuries old, and they have their aging winery in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia. 

The Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny vineyards have an average age of over 60 years. The vines sit on shale soils and are cultivated in Guyot and Cordón Royat. The planting density is 4,000 to 6,000 plants per hectare and they are harvested by hand to preserve the grapes as intact as possible until they arrive at the winery. 

Once in the winery, the Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny ferments in the typical winepresses and the traditional treading is carried out periodically to extract the maximum color, aromas and structure of the grapes. Finally, before the alcoholic fermentation ends and about 100 grams per liter of sugars remain in the middle, the wine is topped with wine alcohol and ages in the typical 550-liter oak barrels for about 10 years. 

Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny is a complex and pleasant Port that perfectly combines aromas, alcohol and sweetness.
