    Description:

Ribeiro has always been a very recognized wine. Without going any further, the D.O. Ribeiro, the oldest in Galicia, was already exporting wine to England in the Middle Ages, long before the Portuguese of the Douro or the wineries of the Jerez region.

According to legend, Edward of Woodstock, who went down in history as the black prince - a nickname given for the lack of polish on his armor - arrived in the Iberian Peninsula to help the Portuguese in their war against the Castilians. Accompanied by his archers, he passed through the area corresponding to the D.O. Ribeiro and tasted their wines. He ended up so delighted that he immediately ordered its importation.

In this same land, Bernardo Estévez Chánselus Cepas Vellas Blanco is born, a wine made with native grapes in the D.O. Ribeiro, specifically in Arnoia, a municipality southeast of Ourense by Bernardo Estévez.

There, in the valleys of San Vicente and San Amaro, Bernardo Estévez works recovering native varieties from 2 hectares of biodynamic vineyards, where he also applies the principles of natural agriculture, which consists of avoiding common practices such as plowing (the soil must always remain in its natural state without altering its microecosystem), fertilizer, pruning (plants grow according to their needs for space and light) or the use of herbicides and pesticides (they not only kill unwanted insects and herbs, but also eliminate the beneficial ones).

In the case of Bernardo Estévez Chánselus Cepas Vellas Blanco, the vinification ends in the winery he has next to his house, where he destems by hand, treads the grapes on foot (as in the past) and spontaneous fermentations. To top it off, it will spend 9 months aging in French oak barrels.

Chánselus Cepas Vellas Blanco is a wine that contains in its bottle the entire soul of the D.O. Ribeiro. It is a tribute wine that pays tribute to the ribeiro of yesteryear.
