Description: 

Ángeles de Amaren is a red wine made in the D.O. La Rioja by the Amaren Winery in the town of Villabuena, in La Rioja Alavesa. 

In 1995, the first vintage of Ángeles de Amaren, was born as a high-end wine from the Luis Cañas Winery. In 2009, Juan Luis Cañas created the Amaren Winery as a tribute to his mother, Amaren means mother in Basque, and went on to produce this great wine from La Rioja. 

It is made with the Tempranillo (85%) and Graciano (15%) varieties. The grapes come from vineyards over 40 years old planted on terraces and slopes protected by the Sierra Cantabria. The plots have poor soils, with low yields but with grapes of excellent quality. 

Amaren Winery practices respectful agriculture, using only organic fertilizers and without using herbicides. The harvest is done manually and the grapes are transported to the winery in small plastic boxes. The vineyards are very close to the winery, so the grapes are transported to the winery in the shortest possible time so that they arrive in optimal condition. 

The grapes go through a double selection table, first the clusters that are in perfect condition are selected. Once destemming is done, a second selection is carried out to select the best beans. 

The vinification of the varieties is carried out separately to maintain the fruit of the Tempranillo and the complexity of the Graciano. Ángeles de Amaren ages for 16 months in new French and American oak barrels. 

Ángeles de Amaren is a small production wine. A great wine from La Rioja, with a lot of fruit and very expressive.
