Description:
Familia Torres Purgatori is a red wine produced by Familia Torres wineries in the municipality of Les Borges Blanques (Lleida), within the D.O. Costers del Segre.
Familia Torres is a family business founded in 1870 by Jaime and Miguel Torres Vendrell, with several generations dedicated to the production of wine and brandy in Penedés. Currently, Familia Torres produces wines in many wine regions around the world. In Spain it owns 4 wineries, in 4 other denominations of origin, Penedés, Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Priorat.
In 1999 Familia Torres acquired the Els Desterrats farm, a farm with an extreme climate dedicated to hosting the monks of the Montserrat Abbey to perform their penance. Very soon they realized that the harsh conditions of the area were ideal for producing high-quality wines.
Familia Torres Purgatori is a wine made with Cariñena, Grenache and Syrah, from the best vineyards of Finca Els Destarrats, a farm with more than 175 hectares dedicated to vineyards.
Once harvested, it ferments in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, 26-28°C, for a week. Once the fermentation is finished, it is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. Before going on the market, it rests for a minimum of 20 months in the bottle.
Familia Torres Purgatori is a mature, intense and deep wine. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit stand out with smoky and lactic notes from aging. In the mouth it is fresh and shows all the concentration of fruit.
Legend has it that large barrels mysteriously disappeared. Some said that they were the angels who, after secretly coming down to taste their excellent wines, took a part to heaven every year.
