Description:
Guímaro is a young red wine from the D.O. Ribeira Sacra made by Adega Guímaro. This is a single-varietal Mencia.
The grapes used for this wine come from vineyards treated in a completely artisanal way planted on spectacular steep terraces in Amandi, one of the five subzones into which the D.O. is divided. Ribeira Sacra.
Wine has been made in this designation of origin for more than 2,000 years. In fact, it was the Romans who began working on these steep slopes.
The wines from this area, of low production but high quality, were even praised by the New York Times in 2009.
Adega Guímaro was built at the beginning of the century and wines are made there in a traditional way. In 1991, a major renovation was carried out that improved its conditions and the winery is today one of the flagships of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.
Adega Guímaro also plans to launch organic wines made from native Galician varieties in a few years.
