Fifth vintage of this extraordinary red wine that is already one of Bertrand Sourdais' great wines. It is made only with grapes from the La Mata vineyard with different soils and orientations, all far removed from the clichés of Ribera del Duero. According to Sourdais himself, "this vineyard generates confidence and you know where it takes you, being comparable to the great crus of Burgundy, Piedmont, Pomerol or Barolo."

Description:
Name: Paraje La Mata
Description: Pre-phylloxera vineyard located on the lower part of the slope in the Atauta valley at 935 meters above sea level. A single plot. Goblet training and biodynamic cultivation. East-north exposure.
Surface: 0.33 hectares.
Age: More than 100 years.
Soil: Sand, silty-calcareous on clay.
Climate: The 2022 vintage had an extremely hot summer and a significant lack of rainfall that foreshadowed another result, and, however, it followed in the footsteps of the great 2019 vintage due to the precision and impeccable balance of the wines, but with a lighter architecture. 2022 was a year of record temperatures in summer, both in maximum and minimum temperatures, and the almost absence of rain in summer. The winter was cold and dry and only in the months of April and May was there rainfall. All stages were developed three weeks earlier than the average of other years, and there was luck with frost and hail. The grapes remained small due to lack of water, but despite this the old vines did not apparently suffer from it.
Harvest: The harvest of this plot was carried out on September 16, 2022 with fog and cool temperatures in the morning. 746 kilograms were collected to make this wine.
Vinification: 100% destemmed. 67 days of maceration at a controlled temperature between 18 and 27 ºC. Pumping over every 10 minutes with O2 up to 1035 during alcoholic fermentation and 5 minutes until finished.
Aging: At this time the aging process is taking place in two Burgundian barrels from 2012.
